A former bank becomes an elegant new hotel.
In the very heart of historic New Town at 39 St Andrews Square, sits Gleneagles Townhouse, one of Edinburgh newest luxury destinations. The sister property to the iconic Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire and located in a restored heritage building previously home to the British Linen Bank and then the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Townhouse boasts a wellness space, a members’ club and the vibrant all-day restaurant, The Spence.
Each of the hotel’s 33 guest bedrooms and suites are unique in size and orientation and combine timeless charm with up-to-the-moment amenities including bath products by Gleneagles & Co and complimentary in-room treats. Rooms with soaring ceilings and decorative moldings are outfitted in layers of colorful patterns and upholstered pieces the interiors offer a contemporary take on baronial splendor.

Located in the center of the old banking hall, The Spence, features a central bar situated beneath a glass domed ceiling. The chic and bustling brassiere filled with lush palms and curvaceous pink and red banquettes hosts all day including breakfast, long lunches and exciting three course dinner featuring the restaurant’s signature dishes, which head chef Jonny Wright describes as “rooted in classics with a modern twist” include Wild Mushroom Tart with Goats Curd and Hazelnuts, Whole Roasted Turbot with Fennel & Chilli and Scotch Baba with Praline Sauce and Mascarpone for two to share.

Exclusive to members and hotel guests, the roof terrace bar Lamplighters, with impressive views of the city’s medieval Old Town to the left and picture-perfect New Town to the right, serves up a seasonally rotating, locally inspired cocktails, local whiskies, beers, spirits, and wine.
